There
are two ways residents (including us) generally look at the paid
parking scenario.
One: we complain. It’s either about not finding coins to
pay for the parking or about how expensive it really is.
Two: we appreciate. We understand the chances of finding a
spot are higher and this proves handy when you’re making a short stop
at some place (meetings, quick coffee etc).
However, our instant reactions to seeing a new parking sign
board go up aren’t always great. This just happened with people at Dubai
Silicon Oasis.
RTA has installed parking sign boards in the area, but the
meters haven’t been put up yet. It will operate as a paid parking zone
from 8am to 10pm through the week, but seasonal cards (annual, bi-annual or
quarterly) can’t be used.
As per their comments to Gulf News, they believe it’s not a justified decision as there’s no parking problem in the area. If there was a shortage of space, it would be understandable, but for now this doesn’t seem to be the case.
Some people working in Dubai Silicon Oasis have said that it’s almost impossible to have to pay for parking every hour just because they don’t have access to parking spots in their office buildings.
Other residents also seemed unhappy about the fact that seasonal cards can’t be used. They said this would be particularly problematic for those with more than one car and just one designated parking spot in their building.
These include places such as Deira Fish Market, Deira Gold Souk, Dubai Media City, Dubai Internet City, Knowledge Village and Tecom.
