Dubai Will Be Getting Dedicated Bus Lanes Which Will Reduce Travel Time By 40%
Dubai has one of the best public transportation systems, probably in the entire world. Wherever you want to go, a taxi will take you but you can also opt to take the fee-friendly bus, metro, or tram. You can also take a taxi that crosses bodies of water. It’s just so easy and convenient.
Traffic can be a problem though during rush hours. But that’s why Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority has come up with a system to slash bus journey times in some areas by up to 44% which is phenomenal!
Between 2023 and 2027, RTA will construct dedicated bus and taxi lanes that extend to 37km. Lanes like these are used in several metropolitan cities in America and Europe and have proved to be successful. They reduce journey time, increase compliance with on-time bus departures, improve taxi arrival times, and encourage the use of public transportation.
Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said:
The introduction of this project is expected to reduce bus journey time by 44% on the 2nd December Street; 39%on the Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street and Amman Street; 28% on the Omar bin Al Khattab Street; 27% on Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street; 25% on Al Nahda Street; and 18% on Al Satwa Road.
The project is expected to help increase public transport ridership by 20% by 2030 on some streets and reduce the requirements of additional buses due to the journey time saved.
