Freelancing in the UAE previously was a costly process, with permit costs up to Dh20,000 along with additional visa and work permit charges.

Dubai’s free zone operator TECOM Group has released a new freelance package whose cost of registration and licensing fees will be reduced by 70%.

This scheme covers freelancers in the fields of media and education at Dubai Media City and Dubai Knowledge Park, dropping it to Dh7,500 a year after the reducing the cost.

General Manager of Dubai Media City, Majid Al Suwaidi said “The package provides a unique opportunity for media and creative professionals to achieve success and prosperity within the unmatched Dubai Media City business system, which provides advanced infrastructure and a platform for entry into neighboring markets”

While the package is separate to any visa costs that may be incurred, it is ultimately designed to entice more freelancers to Dubai, making the city a more attractive place for them to work.
