Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-Presient and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai launched The Reading Nation Ramadan campaign on the first day of Ramadan.
The campaign aims to provide five million books to refugee children and underprivileged students around the world. On Tuesday, this goal was exceeded when The Reading Nation auction was held and enough money for 7 million books was raised.
The auction, which was under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed , included items from his personal collection including a 106 year old section from the cover of the Kaaba in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. However, it was the “R Dubai 10” licence plate that garnered the most money on the night. It was purchased by Suroor Al Awadhi for AED 9.7 million!
Reading Nation campaign exceeds its initial target of donating 5 million books worldwide to 7.3 books after the successful charity auction

“Donating to such a great cause put forward by Sheikh Mohammed is the most important thing, showing that the UAE is ahead of other countries and cares for the less fortunate”
Mr Al Awadhi
