Even Taxi Drivers Are Cracking Down With The New Traffic Laws In Place This Week

The new road rules, announced earlier this year, have been rolled out by the RTA – stating that all passengers in a vehicle must have their seatbelt on – even if you’re sitting in the back seat.

Head of the UAE Federal Traffic Council stated that even if the driver has their seatbelt on, they can still face a fine if other passengers are not wearing their seatbelt.

Which means taxi drivers have been cracking down on their passengers wearing seat belts, to minimise fines.

The head of the UAE federal traffic council, Mohammed Al Zafein reiterated the fines

“The fine is Dh400 for each passenger not wearing a seatbelt, so if the driver is wearing a seatbelt and other three passengers are not wearing it, then he needs to pay Dh1,200 in total for the three passengers, with four traffic points.”

This new regulation was instatement and declared effective from July 1 as to decrease traffic-related injuries.
