It was the year 2008 when Dubai World purchased the iconic 70,000-tonne vessel QE2 and docked it in Port Rashid. And nearly a decade after, the cruise ship is all set to become a floating hotel and museum. 

The cruise, which first set sail in 1969 and was designed to cross the Atlantic in five days in all weathers, has been described by the experts as the best and the the most famous serving liner in the maritime world as of today. 

The reopening of the cruise as a hotel has long been anticipated

The cruise ship was earlier intended to become a floating hotel with 500 rooms, however, the 2008 financial crisis scrapped all the possibility. 

No confirmation has been received as of yet but the conjecture is that the  ship, which has sailed 5.6 million miles, carried 2.5 million passengers in its lifetime and also served as a troop carrier in wars, is now set to open as a 300-room hotel.

A new website for QE2 has also been launched

Not much can be said about the hotel and museum but a brand new website has gone live which says the luxury floating hotel is “coming soon”. 

The hotel also promises to offer “a new take on hospitality” as well as a ‘”royal experience”, and if past ambitious Dubai properties and projects are any indication, there is little doubt in our minds that the ship-hotel will deliver what it says. 

We hope some of the features of the ship from its hey days when it served the Queen will be restored.
