Sharjah Police has slammed the reports of an audio clip circulating around of a man warning residents about a gang of robbers who targets cars.
The police released an official statement denying these rumours and slamming media outlets who took the report seriously without confirming the veracity of the clip.
As per Khaleej Times, Colonel Ibrahim Al Ajal, director of the criminal investigation department at Sharjah Police, set the record straight.
He urged the members of the community, and authorities on social media sites and media itself not to publish news without cross checking the source.
“After examining the recording, we found his claims to be untrue. Such audio recordings published on social media sites greatly exaggerate such incidents and are factually flawed.”
According to KT, the man in the clip talks about how robbers stole the contents of two cars parked in front of the Sharjah Family Court that included money and personal documents.
He also stated that it was the work of a gang who would monitor their victims prior to the theft, and would use a special device to break the windows.
And although the Sharjah Police confirmed the robberies, they categorically denied the audio clip.
