An auction of number plates all related to the UAE’s late Founding Father Sheikh Zayed, also known as the ‘100th Open Distinctive Number Plates Auction’ was recently held by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) at the Hilton Dubai Hotel.
Nearly AED22 million-worth of vehicle plates were auctioned off at the the event on Saturday.
Few of the bestsellers of the auction included car plate numbers representing important dates related to the late Sheikh Zayed in the UAE history, including his birth year – Z 1918 – which fetched AED140,000.
Other important numbers that were auctioned included 1971 (the year of establishing the foundation) and was sold for AED60,000.
The fancy dual-number plate (AA88) was auctioned off with the highest price of the evening- AED1.8 million, whereas, (Z68), which refers to the historic meeting between the late Sheikh Zayed and the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum at Al Sumeih that led to the unification of all Emirates, raised one AED1.4 million.
