This is one of the Road and Transport Authorities latest innovations and will make the streets safer for pedestrians.
New smart signals will soon cover 15 locations across the UAE and is part of Dubai’s aim to become one of the world’s smartest cities.
According to a post on the RTA The ‘Smart Pedestrian Signals’ technology ‘operates through a system based on sensors connected to a ground-based system that synchronizes with the signal light. It reads pedestrian traffic on the sidewalks (before crossing the street) and on the pedestrian passage (during transit) and adjusts the remaining time automatically based on this reading.’
The system is there to make passage as safe as possible for pedestrians, while not affecting the flow of traffic. This will mean the best level of service for both.
