Police statistics have revealed eight people died in the first quarter of 2017 due to tailgating incidents on the roads in Abu Dhabi.
An additional three people sustained serious injuries, in 73 car accidents related to tailgating.
Abu Dhabi Police released the statistics as a warning to drivers – explaining that it is a leading cause of accidents on the roads.
”Tailgating was one of the main causes of traffic accidents between January and April.
“Failing to maintain a sufficient distance between vehicles increases the risk of rear-end collisions as motorists do not have sufficient time or distance to stop, should the vehicle travelling ahead, in front, opt for a sudden and unexpected halt.”

There were also 5,150 people were booked by Abu Dhabi Police for violating the law.
