Everyone knows that when it comes car number plates in the UAE, the lower the better. Well, in Sharjah over the weekend, the point was very much proved when the in-demand No. 1 car plate sold for AED 18 million.

The licence plate was sold in an auction where bidding started at AED 1 million but it quickly shot up to AED 18 million. Arif Ahmad Al Zarouni, the Emirati business man who won the bid stated that he was determined to purchase the plate at any cost.

“I attended the licence plate auction only to win Number 1. My ambition is always to be number 1. I have no plan to win other numbers.”
