UAE citizens who are planning to travel to the Maldives have been advised by the embassy to be cautious, this due to the political unrest in the country.
Since last week, the exotic islands have witnessed unrest after President Yameen’s government apprehended two supreme court judges.
According to Khaleej Times, this arrest was carried out rather than obeying a “court order to release political prisoners and re-instate disqualified parliamentarians.”
Maldives’ President, Yameen, has been witnessing some revolts against him and his party especially after arresting those critical of him in efforts to hold onto his position of power.
The embassy also called upon citizens currently in the Maldives to get in contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the case of an emergency.
