The latest ambitious project for the UAE involves towing icebergs from Antarctica to the UAE, to help balance out the UAE’s marine ecosystem.
Yes, seriously.
The project, announced by the National Advisor Bureau Limited, which is based in Abu Dhabi’s Masdar City – would see the icebergs taken to Fujairah to help melt fresh water into the Arabian seas, which have high salinity levels due to desalination plants in the region.
It’s also believed the icebergs would reduce temperatures in the UAE, with the cold air coming off the icebergs.
The plan aims to be actioned in 12 months.
