Smart governments will make an effective waste disposal system. However, smarter governments will make provisions for converting that waste into energy. That’s the exact premise behind waste-to-energy plants.
The government of Dubai has now announced its plans of making a similar plant which is going to be the largest in the world and will be constructed in emirate’s Al Warsan area.

The construction of the plant is slated to begin in the next coming months and the entire project will cost a whopping AED 2.5 billion.
The facility will aim to treat up to 1.82 million tons of solid waste every year, which is roughly about 60 percent of Dubai’s annual garbage production, and in turn will produce 185 MW of electricity.
This is roughly two percent of Dubai’s annual energy consumption and will enable it to provide power to almost 120,000 homes, or the equivalent of 2,000 high-rise structures.
This project fits under Dubai Municipality’s bigger goal of diverting 100 percent from landfills by 2030.
