Raising over AED160,000 for mental health research and treatment in 2018, voluntary community group Darkness Into Light UAE aims to hit AED200,000 and they’re reaching out to all UAE citizens to join them in their journey this year.

The aim of this initiative is one of pure human kindness; to remove the stigma around mental illness and uplift those who are affected through the power of hope and support.

Born in 2015, the Darkness into Light Walk has grown year on year and in 2018 over 200,000 people took part in 150 locations, in 16 countries across five continents. This year the walk will commence at 3:45am, at Kite Beach, Jumeirah on the 11th of May.

Beginning the walk early in the morning when it’s dark, is symbolic of the journey of those who go through any kind of mental illness, from a dark place to a brighter future, through constant support and encouragement.

Thousands are expected to take part in this 5km walk, with an entry fee that goes directly towards the treatment and research for mental health.
