Dubai goes dark for Earth Hour 2016

Earth Hour, the annual event organised by the WWF to raise awareness for climate change. Dubai, supported by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is expected to go dark for one hour this evening between 8:30pm and 9:30pm to participate in the global initiative. 

“Dubai marks the annual Earth Hour event in line with the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan to strengthen the leading role Dubai plays in supporting global efforts to reduce carbon dioxide and greenhouse-gas emissions that cause global warming and climate change,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

Last year 10,400+ landmarks went dark, the Burj Al Arab included

The WWF have been spreading awareness in Downtown Dubai today
