It has been 10 days since the Dubai Police released a report on the young boy found at a Dubai mall, asking the public to help find his parents and relocate him back home.
Unfortunately, he has yet to be claimed, which resulted in speculation from the public on the possible reason his parents abandoned the five-year-old at the Al Reef mall in Deira.
Local reports say that under the UAE’s child protection law, a child’s physical and mental well-being should be protected, so he could be placed in the care of a family during this time, to reduce trauma while the police are still in search of any legal guardian.
A shopper at the mall had noticed that the boy was all alone, after which she took him into the mall, that’s when she realised no one came looking for the child- leading her to inform the authorities.
According to The National, a Dubai advocate general and head of family and juvenile prosecution, Mohammed Rustom, says the child will probably be transferred to a social welfare body or foster home. Rustom added that it seems evident that the boy was intentionally left behind.
If his parents are found, they are susceptible to jail time or a hefty fine for child endangerment.
At the moment, the child is under the care of female officers at the Al Muraqqabat Police Station.
