Dubai Resident Is Working To Bake The Barriers And It’s A Beautiful Concept

A Dubai resident is cooking up a storm in a bid to break down barriers between Muslim and non-Muslim communities.

Nicola Dolan saw the hate and anger that came from the horrific Manchester bombing and felt she needed to do something.

Though a small act, it was a significant one. Nicole decided to bake cakes and share them with her Muslim neighbours.

“I decided I needed to do something, no matter how small. That when I came up with the initiative #bakedownbarriers ; I baked some cakes, and offered them on Facebook to any Muslim family nearby. I wanted to do one small thing to reach out to counter the backlash I knew the religious community was facing. I wanted to have dialogue, to connect, to listen, and to love. I invited the family over for coffee and cake and the impact this had on people was unthinkable. One small action meant so much.”

It was a well received favour and now, Nicole is looking to encourage other UAE residents to do the same

“I’d like to see this bring our community together. In Dubai we have such an amazingly diverse community it’s nice to come together.

Do something nice for someone else and pay it forward – it doesn’t exclusively have to be about baking. Just needs to be a small gesture.”
