Despite countless awareness campaigns that warned Dubai drivers about the dangers of sudden swerving, it still remains the NUMBER ONE cause behind road fatalities in Dubai.
So much so that it has already resulted in 23 deaths so far this year, as per the Dubai Police.
In 1,250 major traffic accidents that happened during the first half of this year, 76 people were killed and 884 others injured.
Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of Traffic Department in Dubai Police told Gulf News that, “sudden swerving caused 317 serious traffic accidents that resulted in 23 deaths and 268 injuries.”
It is a serious offence despite motorists thinking otherwise.
As per Brigadier Al Mazroui, Emirates Road saw 30 serious traffic accidents that resulted in 14 deaths making it the most dangerous road in Dubai.
This is followed by Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed road that saw 72 serious accidents and eight deaths whereas Sheikh Zayed Road witnessed 69 serious traffic accidents this year.
This was one of the reasons why the speed limit on Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed and Emirates Road was reduced to 110km/h.
There is a serious lesson to be learnt here, people.
