Dubai residents are imploring authorities to step in and save Jumeirah Sunset Beach after its plans to be developed could see the public access disappear completely.
A petition on Change.org is being shared that is calling for intervention into the planned development, which would overtake what they’re calling ‘Dubai’s last natural beach that receives surfable waves’.
The beach has come under contention in 2007 and 2014, with development being blocked by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai – and it looks like that’s what residents are looking to inspire once more.
Nearly 700 residents have already signed the petition, hoping that the beach will be saved once more.
Thanks to its proximity to the iconic Burj Al Arab, free public access, and water-sport friendly layout.
The petition calls for a longer-term solution to the issue, stating:” This new round of petitioning in 2018 and onwards is a continuation of the request to reconsider the development and perhaps reach a permanent compromised solution that would optimise the sustainability for this particular stretch of Dubai’s coastline.”
