A Dubai Policeman was charged and convicted after it was discovered that he had been involved in a burglary of a family home in 2016.
The Emirati policeman and two of his friends were tried in the case where two of the men were convicted and a third friend was cleared of all the charges due to lack of evidence.
Police were led to the officer in question after the serial number of one of the stolen phones was traced back to him.
After initially denying the accusation, and claiming he had found the phone in the desert, he admitted to the police that he has stolen the phone along with other goods from the woman’s family home.
He carried out the theft after the Emirati woman refused his marriage proposal and instead accepted the offer of another man.
After leaving their family home for a week the victims returned to their house to find that it had been broken into and numerous valuable items stole.
The policeman told the arresting officers that he and his accomplice has sold the majority of the stolen goods and spilt the profits between them.
After an intial charge of burglary and damaging property the pair were sentenced to a year in jail each.
However, after their appeal the Court decided to reduce their sentence to only three months each.
