Possibly the most ‘are you serious?’ topics of the year has been the UAE’s plans to tow icebergs from Antartica. The UAE ministry has now answered that question with a resounding ‘no.’ An Abu Dhabi based company recently announced their plans to tow the icebergs to be used as drinking water to the shores of Fujairah. Abdullah Mohammad Sulaiman Al Shehi, managing director of National Advisor Bureau Limited told Gulf News that the icebergs would be used for tourism in alignment with drinking water usage.
The ministry also put reports that “an iceberg or water being imported through a pipeline from another State is underway” to rest – according state news agency WAM.“As the authority in charge of water affairs, it would like to confirm that such news is just a rumour,” the ministry said.
