10 Pretty Average Things To Keep You Busy In July

Welcome to the second half of the year! There’s a good bit to look forward to (mainly the end of summer). Ramadan is nearly over, Eid is just around the corner, and there are some pretty cool travel and shopping deals, plus a host of events to go to.

So here’s what you can do this month.

1. Celebrate Canada Day

Ok, when we said ‘pretty average’ in the title, we weren’t referring to this awesome day. It’s a celebration of all things (read: foods) Canadian at Weslodge on 1 July. You begin with maple syrup ice rolls served on arrival, before moving on to a four-course meal that includes lobster poutine and s’mores. The panoramic views from this chic venue located on the 68th floor of JW Marriott Marquis coupled with exceptional service will complete the experience.

2. Watch your fave superheros on the big screen

Argentinian restaurant Gaucho is turning things around this summer. It’s bringing diners Cinema Sundays throughout the month of July. The food menu features popcorn, mini burgers and nachos, while the film menu features Superman, Batman and Ironman.

3. Let the children attend a summer camp

This
camp at FitRepublik will ensure the little ones stay active all summer.
Taking place between 3 July and 25 August, it offers activities such as
swimming, martial arts, breakdancing and even other sports. The good thing is
that you can book it for the day or the week. It is suitable for kids aged 5 to
13 years.

4. Or sign them up for an art class

DIY painting studio, thejamjar is hosting classes for kids aged 4 to 12 years this summer. The classes, available in the morning or afternoon, will enable them to better their skills at different forms of art. They’ll be doing interesting stuff like basic printmaking, charcoal drawing and even geometric pattern-making. Note: you need to book a spot at least a week in advance.

5. Watch a legend perform

Kuwaiti artist Nawal will be in Dubai at the Rashed Hall on 7 July. The powerhouse singer will perform old classics as well as songs from her latest album. Fans of the musical icon should definitely save the date.

6. Hear some fantastic musicians jamming

Undivided on 8 and 9 July at Dubai World Trade Centre halls will bring
together musicians from the subcontinent (quite a musical treat for Indian and
Pakistani fans).

Headlining the act on 8 July is Shafqat Amanat Ali
with Komal Rizvi and Papon. Together they will cover genres such as Sufi,
pop and Bollywood. On 9 July, Indian pop-rock star Kailash Kher will
perform alongside Arif Lohar.

7. Enjoy a smaller concert

Indian music legends Rabbi Shergill and Shibani Kashyap, along with Maya Venus, will put up a show at Sheikh Rashid Auditorium, The Indian High School, on 8 July. It’s all about semi-Sufi acoustic rock-based ballads and renditions of Shibani’s chart-busters.

8. Witness a comeback performance

He’s been MIA since a while, but Saudi singer Rashed Al Majed is back! He will perform at Dubai World Trade Centre on 9 July. Expect a night of romantic and popular songs in what happens to be the most awaited concerts of this season.

9. Shop to you heart’s content

Dubai Summer Surprises 2016 kicks off on 9 July and will bring shoppers deals in over 6,000 stores across various shopping malls. The annual event, now in its 18th year, also focuses on family entertainment, so there will be lots of different events to cater to children of all ages. 

Families can also visit Modhesh World at Dubai World Trade Centre. The indoor entertainment destination is a great way to beat the heat.

10. Cheer junior chess champs

Some of the world’s youngest chess players will be battling it out for the top spot at Dubai Juniors between 19 to 27 July. The tournament, held annually, attracts participants from more than 40 countries. Head over to the Dubai Chess and Culture club and show some support to these little stars.
