This week the story broke about the Entertainer, a popular discount app, selling to a Bahrani headquartered company.
The founder and CEO of the Dubai start-up, Donna Benton confirmed to Dubai Eye that 85% of the company was sold for AED364 million (the exact deal hasn’t been published but a nine-figure USD figure was confirmed).
This is a huge achievement for any company, but even more inspiring when you hear that the Entertainer was started 17 years ago, by an expat from her apartment on Sheikh Zayed Road.
And Benton will stay with the company as it aims to grow and expand further.
It’s hard to keep up with new business openings in Dubai; from tech start-ups and small restaurants, it seems every day there’s an opening to attend, or a Dubai relevant app to download.
But, we see closures too. Not as often as openings thankfully, but just this month, 7elephants, Sass Cafe, Societe, and 360 all announced an end date too.
So a company that goes the distance, and then some, is a story we can all get behind. It’s the dream success story; an expat starting from scratch in Dubai and turning her own company into not only something Dubai residents can benefit from daily but internationally too.
