The world famous Billionaire Mansion opened its doors in Dubai last month to a train-load of hype and attention. And why wouldn’t it? This is the design and creation of former F1 boss Flavio Briatore and, as the name suggests, this place will be attracting Dubai’s well-heeled glitterati for the foreseeable future.
Despite what the name suggests, Billionaire Mansion is not a mansion at all. The venue takes over an entire floor of the Taj Hotel in Business Bay – already home to Treehouse, a popular rooftop bar – and the Mansion is five venues in one: With two fine-dining concepts, a shisha lounge, a nightclub, and a ‘so-out-it’s-nearly-back-in’ karaoke concept, each just oozing opulence and luxury; this venue was MADE for Dubai.
We just wonder why it took them so long to figure it out.
Two fine-dining concepts; Billionaire Grill & Sumosan run side-by-side and fortunately you don’t need to be a billionaire (just about) to dine at either.
First up is the Billionaire Grill; an Italian restaurant which serves up classic dishes with a contemporary twist. The lamb ragu already has a following, but the live entertainment is the real draw at this spot; expect live artists and entertainers performing most nights of the week here.
Sumosan is the Grill’s upscale neighbour – an internationally renowned Japanese restaurant. Founded in Moscow in 1997, and a successful launch in London later, this is now a popular celeb haunt (Nicole Kidman is a counted as a regular). Sumosan made its Dubai debut in April, with the help of Janina Wolkow, the original founder’s daughter, who was also behind the London launch.
New additions to the menu, such as the spinach-date-chestnut dumplings, are available alongside old favourites, while some adaptations have been made to suit the region and produce available. We hear the salmon rice pizza is an absolute must.
Karaoke is making a comeback. This retro activity is favoured by models-of-the-minute Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, so it was only a matter of time before fashionable night spots got in on the trend too. Perfect for birthdays, stags, hens and for people that take their musical talent seriously, an hour in a private room at the Mansion costs AED 1,000.
When Flavio Briatore designed this concept, he wanted to create a nightlife experience and bring “dance floors reminiscent of Bodrum, Istanbul and Malindi Beach” to Dubai. Expect glamour, fashion, pulsing music and a sizeable-queue at Dubai’s newest hot spot. The doors open at 11.30pm, so this is one for the night owls only.
This super-smart shisha terrace opens it’s doors at 5pm every evening. More casual that any of the Mansions other offerings, this is the ultimate setting to chill out on some of the comfortable chairs and enjoy some quality shisha. Grape-mint anyone?
Doors open until 1am.
