10 Reasons JLT Is The Best Suburb In Dubai
There’s a bit of a suburban battle in our office, debating where the best place to live in Dubai is.
When Lonely Planet voted Business Bay one of the most exciting precincts in the world, a few people scoffed.
Surely other suburbs around Dubai had more to offer?
And it kicked off debate for where is the best place in Dubai to reside.
As a resident of JLT, here are my two cents.
1. The foodie places
There’s a huge array of excellent foodie outlets in JLT, from trendy bars and restos like Nola, Mythos, and Cocktail Kitchen to eateries like Hanoi, Chalco’s and Pitfire Pizza.
From end to end of JLT, it’s jam-packed with a great range of places to suit all budgets and tastes.
2. Easy addresses
There’s no confusion with taxis or directions. “The building behind the hotel, off the main road”? Nope.
It’s all alphabetised clusters, and it’s super easy for taxis to find where they need to be – and for visitors to find your house.
3. It’s cheaper than Marina AND Barsha Heights
The prices for apartments in Marina are some of the highest in town, even Barsha Heights (or TECOM), will cost you more for a flat.
4. Parks and running tracks
Not only does JLT have three lakes, it has a huge lush green park complete with basketball court, exercise equipment and a padded running track.
5. No traffic lights
Okay, maybe a couple, not half as many as elsewhere.
And a common misconception that JLT has bad traffic.
Nope – there’s a loop-de-loop you have to do as it’s all one-way but it means there’s no congestion anywhere.
6. Its proximity to everything
A five-minute drive to Ibn Battuta, to Marina, Barsha Heights, and Sheikh Zayed Road, JLT is near plenty of great stuff.
Plus you get beautiful views of the Marina skyline.
7. The nightlife
AKA, Jazz@Pizza Express, McGettigan’s AND UBK all within a stones’ throw of each other. Meaning you can do a literal pub-crawl.
8. You can always get a taxi
There’s never any shortage of taxis kicking around JLT, usually there’s even a bunch waiting in each cluster.
9. You can walk everywhere
Kids can ride bikes, and play games on the promenade, you can walk from home to the metro, to shops, anywhere you need to.
It’s even walkable to get to Marina Mall, and JBR.
10. It has some of the best gyms in town
For CrossFit alone you’ve got Lifespark and Base3, and then there are boxing gyms like FitBoys and Champion Club, as well as OP Integrated Wellness, Smart Fitness and loads more.
