The shock of the fire that ripped through Zen Tower in Dubai Marina yesterday shook the city.
It was terrifying, with shocking footage showing flames engulfing the tower. Thankfully no one was injured, and the fire was quickly brought under control.
It’s the latest in what feels like a string of tower fires in Dubai:
No one was injured in any of these fires – which were all quickly extinguished by Dubai Civil Defence in lightning quick times.
It’s also worth noting – these fires span over the course of more than two years, it’s hardly a string.
The Dubai Civil Defence has to be one of the most effective crews in the world – getting residents of towers safely evacuated every time, and extinguishing the fires within hours.
Yesterday, when news broke of Zen Tower, hundreds of people inundated our feeds and inboxes asking with how they could help.
Many offered their homes as refuge for displaced residents of the tower. Others asked how they could help donate clothing or wares. And more just offered their help, asking how they could be of use.
Wyndham Dubai Marina Hotel jumped to action, offering a place for residents to drop donations (and free accommodation for residents of Zen Tower) and residents came out in force.
It was similar to the hashtag that trended on New Year’s Eve for residents of The Address, a heartwarming story of a trending hashtag by Dubai residents opening their homes up to anyone needing a place.
Our hearts go out to those affected by these fires, but it’s so great to see people coming together in support – and I hope this good will continues.
