An announcement by the Indian government yesterday has been applauded by (most) Indians world over. It has caused a bit of confusion too.
What was the announcement? Demonetisation of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes from midnight (9 November). These notes have been made invalid in a fight against black money, fake currency and corruption.
Note: it primarily applies to those in India but it’s a good FYI for those staying here as well.
Currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations will not be legal from today, ATMs in India will not work today and new notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 will be circulated from tomorrow.
