6 of the best roast dinners in Dubai

The sun may be shining year-round, but that doesn’t mean a bit of comfort food isn’t in order once in a while. Here are some of the best Sunday (alright, Saturday) roasts you can find in Dubai. Basically, they’re like a big hug on a plate.

Wheeler’s of St James (AED 225)

Oh fancy, huh? Acclaimed chef Marco Pierre White may not smile much, but his famous Great British Roast at Wheeler’s of St James will leave you grinning from ear to ear. Following a brunch format, you can indulge in this traditional feast each and every Saturday from AED 225 per person, without booze. It may seem steep, but when you consider it’s a six-course event (meat and veg dependent on what’s seasonal) with “all the trimmings” and even includes an amuse bouche and choice of four desserts (including an incredible brioche bread and butter pud) – it suddenly seems ok, really.

The Scene (AED 115)

One of the best-loved roasts in Dubai (served on Saturdays and Sundays, AED 115), this contemporary British hangout, helmed by trendy chef Simon Rimmer, offers a choice of sirloin of beef, roast leg of lamb (with mint sauce, obvs) or Simon’s special nut loaf, all come served with five veg, gravy and a Yorkshire pudding. Not only does it get a double-thumbs up for actually having a vegetarian option (come on, Dubai!) The Scene also boasts a chilled crowd and cosy and eclectic vibe, with killer views of the marina outside. You will always need to book for this one to avoid disappointment.

Nineteen at the Montgomerie Dubai (from AED 235)

Another all-inclusive brunch-style package for Saturdays only, this roast (from AED 235 with soft drinks) is a carnivore’s dream. With a buffet-style approach, you can help yourself to as much lamb, beef or chicken as you please – making the tough “which meat shall I choose?!” dilemma a thing of the past. As expected, there are also mountains of crispy roast potatoes and seasonal veg to pile your plate high with too. Make up for the slightly steeper price-tag by demolishing the desserts on offer.

Irish Village (from AED 60)

The cheapest, and probably most cheerful of the roasts on offer in Dubai – the daily offering at The Irish Village is a huge portion of no-frills, crowd-pleasing and rib-sticking grub. With choices of beef, lamb (and pork) from AED 60 (depending on availability) served with both roast and mashed potatoes, those all-important Yorkshire puddings and seasonal veg and gravy, both you and your wallet will leave feeling full.

Nelson’s Media Rotana (AED 95)

As one of the most authentic ‘pubs’ in Dubai, it would be unthinkable that Nelson’s in Tecom’s Media Rotana wouldn’t have a roast. And much to our belly’s delight, it’s a daily affair. Beef is on the menu, alongside roasted and mashed potatoes, classic Yorkshire puds, steamed veg, walnut stuffing and gravy. With live sports on the TV, a selection of well-known hops on tap and a friendly group of regulars around you – you’d be forgiven for forgetting you were in the Middle East.

Gaucho (AED 185 per person)

You may not think South American fine dining and immediately drift into roast dinner territory – but you’d be wrong. Gaucho – one of DIFC’s most iconic spots – has upscaled this humble British meal with an Argentinian twist. From AED 185 per person, you can trade your standard Saturday beef for rib-eye steak sliced at your table, and infuse your chicken with chimichurri instead of lemon and thyme. Pair that with roasties, beautifully cooked veg and even a Yorkshire pudding or two (come on, we all know they’re essential) and you’re looking at a mighty fine culture mash-up.
