Whether you’re in the mood for love, or just a sucker for sublime seafood, oysters get many people weak at the knees. In a land so rich in opulence and grandeur, of course you can get your fair share of this fancy shellfish in Dubai, too. Here are some of the best places to slip and slide your way to a culinary treat.
Geale’s and seafood are synonymous words in Dubai, but if you go loco for oysters, then there is nowhere else to spend your weekend. They have a fabulous recurring deal – called oyster Saturdays – where if you order a glass of bubbles then you get three oysters, compliments of the Chef. And if that’s not enough for you, then you can order a dozen for just AED99. In a group? Then get two dozen for unbeaten price of AED159. This is perhaps one of the best deals we’ve ever seen in Dubai, so make the most of it!
From their stylish tiled wall emblazoned with the words ‘Shuck Me’ (where you have to get a photo) to their light and industrial interior – The Maine Oyster Bar and Grill is one of the hottest new restaurants to see and be seen in right now. And as you would tell from the name, they do oysters – served ‘bloody Mary style’ very well indeed. Prices begin at AED120 for half a dozen, but we think you’ll be after more than that. Find it at the DoubleTree by Hilton, JBR.
We’re big, huge fans of Cafe Belge at LovinDubai – and their oysters are some of the freshest in the city. From AED145 for six – the ‘chef’s selection’ (quality assured to ensure each and every one is perfect) are served with fresh lemon and mignonette, for a zesty mouthful each time. And their location on the ground floor of The Ritz DIFC – which transports you to the finery of a classic Belgian saloon – is one of the nicest in Dubai. The ideal place to wile away a weekend with friends.
Traiteur is one of the best French restaurants in Dubai, with a reputation for delicious cuisine and well-heeled clientele. Located in the Park Hyatt – they offer six gillardeu oysters, with lemon, rye bread and raspberry mignonette for the sum of AED190. Yes, it’s not as cheap as others – but the quality and delicate flavours are so very worth it.
For those looking for some of the freshest seafood in Dubai: call off the search. Peppercrab at the Grand Hyatt serve nothing but the finest catch, and their oysters are no different. Given that they are bought daily, they cost market price, depending on how in season they are at the time, which is always a great indication of an authentic approach to shellfish. Go and discover the hype for yourself.
The Burj Al Arab’sAl Mahara restaurant needs little introduction – you’ll have seen lucky diners enjoying their catch sitting next to a huge underwater aquarium, after all. As you would expect from dining in the lap of such seven star luxury, prices begin at AED300 for half a dozen oysters, but they’ll probably be some of the best half a dozen oysters that will ever grace your gullet. Save up and send yourself off for a date night to remember.
