Men’s hair salons are tricky things to get right. Grooming
habits are the kind of thing that some men (not all) like to keep to
themselves, so finding a place with good recommendations and straightforward
service is harder than in the oversaturated female beauty market. However,
we’ve done just that. Here are the places to get your barnet sorted in Dubai –
whether you want something quick and convenient or stylish and slick – we’ve
got you covered.
1847 is a good men’s lounge on JBR and in the Grosvenor House hotel for everything from hair cut to massages. Many of the best barbers in Dubai learnt their trade their. Hicham was one such person, spending six years there before he opened his own salon three years ago in Al Barsha, just behind MOE. He now has a second place in DIFC. Gents Mania excels in service, from reservations on whatsapp, to all inclusive (hair, beard, eyebrows, wash) for a very reasonable AED 120. They also go good facials there.
For those with a penchant for the finer (alright, finest)
things in life – where else would you get your follicles seen to than in the
seven star luxury of the Burj Al Arab? Men and women’s salon Posh by Feryal is
just that, and offers not only the most stellar service we think we’ve ever
come across in a salon, but stylists that really know what they’re doing, too… in fact we have a fussy (ridiculously cool) male friend who said it was the best hair cut he’s ever had!
A gents haircut costs AED 200, and you can even indulge in some of their ‘posh’
potions and lotions for your bathroom cabinet at home – Gentlemen’s Tonic,
anyone?
This ultra cool hangout-cum-hairdressers is owned by Dubai’s
very own DJ Bliss, and boasts a clientele that includes Will Smith and French
Montana. Not only do they provide the best fades, trims, hair tattoos and
shaves in town, they also have old and new school hip-hop blaring at all times.
There’s even a dedicated DJ who performs ‘sets’. A cut costs AED 70 and you can
find them in Jumeirah Beach Plaza Centre.
For style, substance and convenience look no further than
the men’s Barbershop by Chill Salon. Handily, for those who matriculate in the
Marina end of town, they are located in both Media City and the still pretty
new Intercontinental Dubai Marina. A great fuss is made of their expert,
British stylists – which is good news for those who are still fresh off the
boat and missing their UK salons. With a cut costing between AED 220-250,
they’re not the cheapest of the lot, but you’re in very safe hands indeed.
This is one for all those guys who profess a fondness for
Scandinavian design and like to Instagram everything with a neat white border.
Akin Barber & Shop, located in Burj Al Salam on Sheikh Zayed road, near the
Trade Centre, is a highly stylised and self-described ‘curated concept store’.
It looks like a proper cool, industrial art gallery meets selective boutique,
and that’s also kind of what it is, except there’s great hair cuts (which cost
AED 165) happening at the same time. One for the fashion-conscious, this place
will leave you with no need for a filter whatsoever.
Chaps & Co is freshly opened in JLT, and has already got
a slew of David Beckham lookalikes streaming around the block waiting to be
seen to. Not only does this place rival some of the best salons in London and
New York in terms of its aesthetic, its service is also spot on. With a
standard cut costing just AED 95 complete with hot towel finish, it’s destined
to become your Thursday destination in preparation for Friday fun.
