The six best sports shops in Dubai

Avatar

Keeping fit is something people in Dubai know all about – but where do you get the kit without blowing your gym budget? Fear not, frugal fitness freaks – this city has its fair share of sporty bargain spots. After all, money saved on the trainers means you can fit in another PT session this month…doesn’t it?

Reebok at Marina Mall

Marina Mall can be hit and miss with shopping. Yes, their food and beverage offering is great, but some of the key stock sometimes skips the stores here. Not so, with Reebok. Not only is this branch just the right size to be able to find what you’re looking for, they always have stuff in the sale. Lovin Dubai’s editor Devinder (a full-on personal trainer, no less) says you can get trainers – including timeless styles like ‘classics’ – for AED 120 (see pic), and leggings, vests and other basics for less than AED 100. Score.

Stadium at The Dubai Mall

This megastore is a must-hit for sporty types frequenting the gargantuan Dubai Mall. Not only do Stadium have all the big names brands you can think of under one roof (Adidas, Under Armour, Reebok and Wilson, anyone?), they also have regular sales. And who can resist a discount? But, the real appeal of this store above some of the others is that it’s where you can get the most up-to-date, fresh off the design-floor type of goodies. Which, for serious sneaker heads, is worth parting with a few more dirhams.

Sun & Sand Sports Factory Outlet Al Quoz

Sun and Sports’ Factory Outlet in Al Quoz is one of the places that has come highly recommended time and time again from sporty types in Dubai (including Lovin’ contributor, PT and nutritionist Daniel Wells). Not only is this place huge, but it’s also packed to the – quite spacious – rafters with almost anything you could need. From socks to sneakers, jackets and rackets – chances are, you’ll find it here. Plus, the fact that it’s a factory outlet means prices are generally at least 30% cheaper than the main stores. Winning.

Dubai Outlet Mall

Dubai Outlet Mall can be hit and miss with up-to-the-minute, trend-led fashion – but that’s the nature of somewhere that deals in past season’s stock. However, where it excels, is sportswear. With brands such as Adidas, Asics, Puma and Nike all under one (very big) roof, it’s a treasure trove of trainers and other performance based goodies. We even found some hi-end Asics trainers with all-important pronation control for around AED 350, when we’d previously seen the same pair in a different colour for just under AED 1,000 in another mall on the same day. Go forth and bargain hunt.

Go Sport at MOE

OK, so Go Sport is one of the biggest sports shops in Dubai so you’ll probably know it. From sports bras to running tights and slimline jerseys, prices often fall around the AED 100 mark, which isn’t too shabby at all. Best of all…check out their climbing wall…yes, inside the store!

Decathlon

Planning a camping trip to Al Qudra? Then get yourself to Decathlon. This French superstore in Mirdif City Centre is great for outdoor gear, stocking an eye-popping array of tents, mattresses and general wildlife-inhabiting must-haves. They also stock everything from tennis rackets to running paraphernalia, it’s basically a one-stop shop for anyone who can’t sit still for more than five minutes. Why not burn off some of that excess energy with a turn, or two, around their many aisles?
