Farah Makhlouf

It is imperative that whatever you post on social media observes the country’s legal and ethical regulations. The Federal Prosecution for Combating Rumors and Cybercrimes has arrested a resident who shot and published an offensive video that “stirs up public opinion and harms public interest,” WAM reported on Sunday.

The man was shown wearing national clothing and entering a luxury car showroom with 2 men carrying large sums of cash

In the video, the man was displaying actions that promote “an offensive image of Emirati citizens and ridiculous them.”

He “arrogantly asks to buy a car that is more expensive than AED two million” and even hands out wads of cash to employees and tells them to go buy themselves coffee.

He was charged with publishing content that was inconsistent with the media content standards and insults the Emirati society after the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the UAE Attorney General Office monitored a video clip on social media platforms.

The man is under investigation and the owner of the showroom was also summoned.

The Public Prosecution urged social media users in the UAE to observe the legal and ethical regulations in the media contact they publish.
