A UAE Based Businessman Is Among The Crew Missing In The Titanic Expedition

UPDATE: Wednesday, June 21. 8pm after the US Coast Guard press conference:

  • The team is “working tirelessly to respond as quickly as possible to the missing Titan submersible.”
  • 5 surface assets searching and will have a total of 10 in the next 24 to 48 hours
  • The team does not know what the “sounds” are but the search is ongoing where the noise was detected.
  • Remotely operated vehicle (ROV) searches have “yielded negative results.”
  • Noise is unlikely created by people.
  • the 5 passengers aboard Titan have “limited rations.”

The conference concluded in just under 20 minutes.

UPDATE. Wednesday, June 21. 8pm:

  • The US Coast Guard will hold a press briefing in Boston about the search for Titan.
  • The crew have roughly 20 hours of oxygen left on board.
  • A Canadian P-3 plane, using sonar buoys, was able to hear underwater sounds which US Navy experts are now analysing.
  • “Banging” was heard at 30-minute intervals on Tuesday
  • Crews are exploring the source of the noise in a remote part of the North Atlantic.
  • A former sub-test pilot, Don Walsh, stated that hearing the underwater noises are encouraging but time is running out.
  • Chris Brown, an explorer and friend of one of the crew stated that the noise is going on every 30 minutes, suggesting that a human is making it. “I’m sure they’re all conserving oxygen and energy, because it’s cold and dark down there,” He told BBC.

UPDATE. Wednesday, June 21. 8am:

  • The US Coast Guard says the search is extremely complex and international ships are scouring an area of the ocean “larger than the state of Connecticut” – about 20,000 sq. km.
  • The crew has roughly 26 hours of oxygen remaining on board.
  • HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Dubai’s Crown Prince tweeted: ‘While search teams are working hard to rescue passengers of the OceanGate Submarine: Hamish Harding, Shahzada Dawood, his son Suleman, Paul-Henry Nargeolet, and Stockton Rush; Dubai and its people pray for their safety and hopeful return home. We are following the updates anxiously and are unified in our prayers for them and their families during these difficult times.’ 

Captain Hamish Harding is a 59-year-old British businessperson based in the UAE. He is an explorer who was aboard the OceanGate submarine when it disappeared during the titanic expedition.

On Sunday, Harding shared his joy on social media as he was going to be part of one of the 5 crew members aboard the OceanGate, who would go on a mission to explore the wreckage of the Titanic

OceanGate charges AED 918,246.25 (USD 250,000) per seat for eight-day trips to the Titanic wreck. The ship measures 21 foot and typically carries a four-day oxygen supply for dives. 

The submarine lost contact with the shore on Monday, approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes into the dive

It was launched from the Canadian Research vessel ‘The Polar Prince’ St John’s, Newfoundland.

The submarine was meant to ping back to the Polar Prince with a message every 15 minutes, but it lost contact soon after the dive began.

OceanGate expeditions (the company that owns the submersible) has released a statement that the search is ongoing and several government agencies are helping to bring the crew back. 

The US Coast Guard is working together with Canada to help find the missing ship

The search is currently ongoing.
