Last night, the Burj Khalifa illuminated the night sky to express solidarity with the victims of Morocco’s devastating earthquake, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness of disaster.

“From the UAE, our deepest condolences to the Moroccan people…”

The 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck late on Friday, being the strongest quake to hit the region around the ancient city of Marrakech in a century

The earthquake event occurred in the High Atlas Mountains shortly after 11 p.m. on Friday, claiming the lives of over 2,000 individuals and presenting the imminent risk of a humanitarian crisis in a region of Africa prone to earthquakes.

The UAE is sending aid to Morocco as earthquake death toll rises

Further, in a phone conversation on Sunday, President Sheikh Mohamed extended heartfelt condolences and pledged assistance to Morocco, emphasizing the UAE’s unwavering unity with Morocco and its commitment to aiding the Moroccan people during their earthquake recovery efforts.

On Saturday, Sheikh Mohamed ordered that relief be urgently sent to Morocco

He directed the opening of an air bridge on Saturday to assist the country. The bridge will deliver critical relief supplies and other forms of support to those affected by the earthquake that struck various areas of the Kingdom of Morocco. A similar air bridge in February enabled the UAE to send 260 flights with aid for the Türkiye-Syria earthquake, which saw huge destruction and claimed 50,000 lives.
