Emirates suspends

Heavy clashes erupted in the capital of Iraq after cleric Moqtada Al Sadr announced he would quit politics. People who are loyal to him stormed a palatial government complex in Baghdad and lead to clashes with rival groups. Many lost their lives yesterday as a result.

Iraqi security forces have set a nationwide curfew until further notice.

Emirates Airlines and flydubai have suspended flights to and from Baghdad due to the civil unrest

Emirates confirmed on their website they stopped service to Baghdad on August 30 and 31 and to Barsa on August 30.

Flydubai also took the same decision by temporarily suspending travel until August 31. Affected passengers are encouraged to look into rebooking or visit the airlines to request a refund.

Both airlines will be monitoring the situation.
