Dubai Workers Convicted After Emirati Child Tragically Drowns In a Hotel Pool

In a heartbreaking turn of events, Dubai hotel workers have faced convictions following the tragic drowning of an Emirati child in one of their pools. The incident sheds light on critical safety issues within the hotel premises.

This incident happened last year…

Last year on August 2, in a hotel in Al Barsha Heights, a tragic incident unfolded as a three-year-old girl entered an unattended adult pool. According to Dubai court records, the child went unnoticed for six minutes.

The defendants, including the hotel’s manager and two lifeguards, were given a two-month suspended jail sentence and fined Dh10,000 each for their part in the child’s death

In addition, the Dubai Court of Appeal has further ruled that they must collectively provide the girl’s family with compensation totaling Dh200,000. Not only that, the initial ruling by Dubai Court of Misdemeanours included a penalty of deportation but was removed by the court of appeal…

The girl’s father, not disclosed for privacy reasons, testified that the hotel was crowded that day

He stated his wife was watching their children around 4 pm while he briefly visited the adult pool. Within minutes, he returned to find his son informing him of his sister’s tragic death.

He said,

There weren’t enough sign boards about the pool’s depth and the lifeguards were not vigilant.

He stated his wife was watching their children around 4 pm while he briefly visited the adult pool. Within minutes, he returned to find his son informing him of his sister’s tragic death.

These breaches went against Dubai Municipality’s safety regulations

An inspector discovered safety violations at the accident site, including a missing barrier between the children’s play area and the adult pool, as well as insufficient depth signage.

CCTV footage shown in court showed one of the lifeguards talking with guests when the child drowned.

Our hearts and prayers are with the family…
