In this episode of Dubai Works, we’re joined by Nicholas Brooks and Stewart Howison, Co-founders of Revolution Cycles Dubai and Cycle Safe Dubai. They both have played a major role in moulding the biking community in the UAE.
Revolution Cycles Dubai is a popular cycling store and community, while Cycle Safe Dubai is a non-for-profit that launched over 10 years ago to provide a safe space for cyclist to pursue their passion
Demand in stores in Dubai increased 400% during the pandemic, with global supply delays of up to two years! Brooks and Howison have seen and contributed to how cycling has grown up here over the last two decades; they share some of that story and touch on the pandemic, nutrition, apparel and all the various parts of bicycles as well.
It’s a sport and an industry that once you begin to discover, you realise there is some many facets, and how it continues to evolved, even into the digital space with new providers and brands constantly coming on the scene.
HH Sheikh Mohammed recognised the cycling community of Safe Cycles Dubai as he was driving by on Al Qudra Road and within 6 months, cycling tracks were being built
Brooks recalled how HH Sheikh Mohammed would drive his G-wagon, regularly on Al Qudra Road from his home and come in contact with the cycling community. During one of those times, he called Brooks and Howison over for a chat and let them know how great this initiative is for the community and the city but that it isn’t safe as the lanes close into one. Brooks and Howison recall that within 6 months of that conversation, bike infrastructures began to appear.
