She is many things, but most importantly, she is an icon!

Tala Samman AKA @myfashdiary has been dominating the Dubai fashion scene since a time even before Instagram…

One of Dubai’s OG content creators, Tala’s outfits have had a religious following since the beginning and one look at her Instagram will show you why!

Tala began fashion blogging while she was still a student…leading up to the moment when her website crashed because it couldn’t handle the readership

This is even before Instagram was a thing.

She began her fashion career as a blogger while still studying at London College of Fashion. Soon, in the Facebook era, her friends started reading these blogs and sharing them around until it eventually took off!

“The site would crash…It couldn’t take a bunch of people going on at the same time!”

Besides being a 24/7 fashionista, Tala is also a DJ and has opened for BIG icons like Dua Lipa and Lana Del Ray

Now that’s a plot twist you would not expect!

Tala began DJing in 2015. She was influenced by her friends in the music industry and decided to give it a go…

Slowly, she began picking up gigs with the brands she was already working for, at their events. Three years into her music career, Tala got her big break by opening for Dua Lipa in Abu Dhabi. Later, she would also go on to open for Lana Del Ray at the Yasalam After-Race Concerts.

“I love it… I get to play for brands that I always admired, and getting to do the music aspect which is the more creative aspect.”

6 questions with Tala Samman:

  1. Do you style yourself?

I style myself! I went to fashion school.

2. Online shopping or IRL?

95% of my shopping is online. I find online shopping so efficient.  The other 5% is when I travel.

3. Your go-to brands?

I shop on Revolve a lot, which is a multi-brand online store.

4. What is your process of fashion vlogging?

I genuinely feature things that I discover and learn. That whole thing is like an online community- I’m learning from people, and I’m sharing things I learn from experts that I get to meet at events.

5. Music or blogging?

For the longest time, I was trying to find that balance…and I feel like I finally got that balance a year and a half ago. It was always either/or and I hated choosing.

I love creating content but I never loved the part of brands pushing content on me. The way I built that following was based on me sharing things that I genuinely liked. Having music as a side hustle…made it a little easier for me to be more genuine, because I didn’t have to just do that [content creation] full-time.

5. Advice for influencing?

If you’re actually doing it authentically and organically that takes time and it doesn’t equal money. A lot of times you have to do this for so long till you start getting paid stuff. So do it for the right reasons.

6. Fashion tips?

I am over following a trend just because it’s in. Wear what looks good on you, what you feel good in.
