Virgin Radio Host Mazz Hakim Shares A Personal Story That Is Still The Reality Of Afghans Today
Virgin Radio host Mariam Hakim shared a heartfelt tribute that shows the parallelism from her parents’ story that dates way back to the ‘80s.
Following reports of the Taliban takeover, the world and its residents have offered refuge or help of any kind to Afghanis who have fled the country.
In the post, she captioned “My family left Afghanistan in the 1980s because of war. They walked for days in dangerous circumstances over mountains and forests, their toenails fell off on the journey. Growing up we would hear about the generations of war in Afghanistan on the dinner table. But Afghanistan has changed. If given the right circumstances, people don’t want to leave.”
Along with the image she shared (see below), she added: “This is a picture from earlier this week. Afghans today have worked so hard on the country for the last 20 years. They’ve educated themselves and created opportunities for the country. If you’ve ever spoken to anyone who has been to Afghanistan, they’ve fallen in love. They have a thirst for knowledge. They are educated, work in different industries, learn English, different skills, delve into art, music, and culture. Kabul is such a cool city. All the people want is peace, growth, safety…and they deserve it.”
