The Omega Dubai Desert Classic has ended its 29th tournament and the winner has been announced, but it’s not who we were expecting.

Set at the iconic Majlis Course at Emirates Golf Club the four day tournament saw some of the world’s best golfers compete for the winner’s title, but only one could take home the coveted prize.

Congratulations to Haotong Li who won with a record score of 23 under par

The Chinese professional golfer beat out tough competition from Rory McIlroy to steal the title

McIlroy seemed positioned for a win at the Dubai Desert Classic and many believed he would take the title.

However, the Northern Irish pro was left one shot behind Haotong and narrowly missed out on the top spot.

The 22 year old is the first Asian to win the tournament

The young golfer was ranked at number 60 in the world before the tournament and this win is the biggest in his developing career to date.

Following his deserving win, Haotong can expect an huge leap in his world golf ranking.
