Grey’s Anatomy first aired back in 2005 and 13 years later, the show is still grabbing attention with nail-biting plot lines and gripping TV.
In a recent episode; Dr. Qadri, a new hijabi intern at the hospital, found herself in an emergency situation. A patient begins to bleed out so Qadri quickly removes her hijab to stop the bleed. When later asked why she took it off, her response was this:
“It’s a symbol of my faith. And my faith is about service and compassion.”
The scene has been widely shared on social media, and the reaction across the board is one of praise for the show’s director Shonda Rhimes…

#GreysAnatomy just gets better and better. @shondarhimes truly walks the walk. It is amazing and so meaningful to see a regular Muslim character on a tv show, in @byshondaland no less! To top it off, @TheRealKMcKidd pronounced hijab pretty good. ???????? #Diversity #Representation

Shonda Rhimes, creator of #GreysAnatomy on #representation: “I really hate the word ‘diversity,’ it suggests something…other. As if it is something…special. Or rare. I have a different word: NORMALIZING. I’m normalizing TV.” #BlackRepresentation pic.twitter.com/lwy4KckV9u
