The first UAE-built satellite has just been shipped to South Korea by Emirates SkyCargo.

The KhalifaSat project was launched in 2013 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

It has the honour of being the first fully Emirati-designed and developed satellite manufactured

The remote sensing satellite will provide images of earth for practical application in a variety of industries.

After nearly four months of collaboration between Emirates SkyCargo and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), KhalifaSat has been safely transported from Dubai to Incheon International Airport in South Korea.

KhalifaSat was sent aboard a Boeing 777 specially chartered aircraft after being carefully moved from the MBRSC’s manufacturing headquarters in Dubai accompanied by an armed escort for maximum security purposes along a geo-fenced route.

The satellite will be responsible for beaming down images culled by its remote sensing equipment.

It is set to launch later this year.
