Tragic news emerged from the Philippines on Saturday as three Al Ain based Filipino teachers died after a ferry overturned in rough seas.

The teachers, who work in a private school in the capital, were on summer vacation.

96 passengers were on board as the ferry dealt with a sudden onset of strong winds and high seas- 62 passengers were rescued and the death toll reportedly stands at 31. Three people are still missing and the changeable weather is causing difficulties during the rescue operation.

In total, three boats capsized in the same afternoon

It’s unclear why the coast-guard allowed the second and third boat to sail after the news the first boat had capsized.
