A Dubai Resident Found A “Fake” AED 500 Note… But The Internet Had Other Theories

You know that mini heart attack you get when you think someone just handed you fake cash?

That’s exactly what happened to Massimo Vidoni, better known as The Truffleman of Dubai, when he spotted something seriously off about an AED 500 note he received

Massimo shared a video explaining that the note had two sets of serial numbers printed on it. Eeeks, yes two.

Two serial numbers. One big question mark.

Naturally, that raised red flags.

He said he headed straight to the police station to report it along with the hope that he wouldn’t come across any more “suspicious” bills.

And honestly? We gedditttt.

This is exactly why so many residents say they prefer digital payments. No squinting at holograms. No second-guessing your change.

But then the comments section did its thing

Just when everyone was ready to take off on the “AHHHH FAKE NOTE!” bandwagon, one commenter threw in a plot twist:

What if it’s not counterfeit… but rare?

Soon after the post went live, more people chimed in with the same theory. What Massimo might be holding isn’t a fake note, it could be what collectors call an “error note.”

So what’s an error note?

During the printing process, machines can occasionally misalign or malfunction. When that happens, you might get double serial numbers, misaligned prints, ink smears, or even missing design elements.

These aren’t counterfeit bills. They’re genuine notes with printing errors. And here’s the kicker – they can sometimes be worth more than their face value to collectors.

According to commenters, a note like this could potentially sell for double or even triple its AED 500 value because of the mistake.

Not bad for something you would’ve normally lost your peace over.

Fake bill… or accidental jackpot?

Either way, it’s definitely not something you see every day. And while the collector angle sounds exciting, it’s important to remember that UAE banknotes come with high security standards.

If you ever come across a note that looks unusual, the safest move is exactly what Massimo did – report it or verify it through official channels.

Still, it does make you wonder. Next time you’re handed cash, maybe take a second look. Because in Dubai, even a printing mistake might just turn into a collector’s treasure.
