The days of Airbus A380 production are over.

A spokesperson from Airbus said, “we have no substantial A380 backlog and hence no basis to sustain production.” The double-decker planes, which seated 500 people are costly, with some airport runways unable to sustain their weight.

Emirates was the sole customer, and this morning the Dubai airline announced it would take delivery of 14 more A380s taking its total number of the aircraft to 123. The Dubai-based airline will continue to take delivery over the next two years, however, the contract will end there.

Emirates also announced the purchase of 40 A330-900 aircraft and 30 A350-900s.

Despite the best efforts of Airbus to lure airlines, orders will cease in 2021.

This morning, Emirates announced a significant order for other types of aircraft

‘We are pleased to announce an order with @Airbus for 40 A330-900neo and 30 A350-900 aircraft, worth US$ 21.4 billion at list prices. We will also take delivery of 14 more A380s, taking our total A380 order book to 123 aircraft.”

Airbus announced the cuts at the same time

Following a review of its operations and in light of developments in aircraft and engines, @Emirates agrees with Airbus to

➡ order 40 #A330neo & 30 #A350
