It’s no secret that tax is coming to the UAE.

Cigarettes, energy drinks and sugary drinks be taxed between 50 and 100% starting on October 1, while the full two year roll out begins on January 1, 2018.

The rates, which were issued officially by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan earlier this week, are some of the lowest in the world and the revenue will be redistributed to development projects that benefit society at large and accelerate progress in every aspect of society according to Wam.ae.

And luckily, not everything will be subject to tax.

The following will NOT be subject to tax

-‘Supply or import of investment-precious metals, as well as supply of buildings for sale or lease within the first three years of completion’ (see here for more)

-‘Nurseries, preschool, elementary education, as well as higher educational institutions owned or funded by the Federal or local government’

-‘Basic healthcare services and related goods and services’

-‘Local and international transport’

…As per the Federal Decree-Law No. 8 of 2017 for Value-Added Tax
