The British Man Facing 25 Years For Possession Of A Synthetic Cannabis Is Appealing His Case

Billy Hood was arrested on charges of possession and selling drugs after Dubai police found large quantities of cannabis oil in his car on January 31, after police received information via a tip-off. He is currently facing 25 years in prison and his case, which has been covered extensively by the British media, is currently pending with the UAE court of appeal.

According to The National, The General Directorate for Drug Control (GDDC) became aware that Mr. Hood was intending to sell the substance and when they apprehended him he also had a large quantity of cash on his person and properties used for vaping. According to international reports, Hood said the oil belonged to a friend.

The GDDC states Mr. Hood is now within his rights to appeal the case and clarified he has been treated according to UAE law, despite international media reports saying he was forced into a confession, the GDDC state he had access to an English interpreter at all times.

He has been treated in accordance with UAE law

“Mr. Hood has since appealed the initial ruling in accordance with UAE law, and his case is now pending with the Court of Appeal. At all times, he has been treated in accordance with UAE law and applicable international standards”

The UAE has a strict no drugs policy

Vaping CBD oil is legal in some European countries as it can relieve pain, anxiety, or stress and it’s purchasable in various forms, over-the-counter, in countries where it is legalised.

The type of oil Hood was found with can induce adverse health effects, it’s a chemical, a synthetic drug that is sold as a ‘legal’ replacement for cannabis in some European countries, but due to its high potency reports show that consumption holds risks of severe poisoning, which in some cases can be fatal.

Hood was found with MDMB-4en-PINACA in his car, a replacement for cannabis which compounds share similarities with THC a psychoactive compound found in cannabis and ‘which is responsible for the major psychoactive effects of cannabis’, according to a European Drug and Addiction Monitoring report which reports on new psychoactive substances that may pose health or social risks.
