Blue Whale game is a twisted suicideĀ challenge perpetrated via social media where vulnerable teenagers are goaded to take their own lives.
This horrifying game has been linked to more than 100 suicides across the world, and the Dubai Police now fear that it might just have come to the emirate.
A recent case of suicides by twoĀ Filipino students, a girl and a boy aged 15 and 16, have left the police baffled.Ā
The teenagers died after allegedly committing suicide a day apart. According to the Dubai police, both the students talked about committing suicides on their social media accounts.Ā
This is probably the reason whyĀ sources are linking the death of the second teenager to the Blue Whale suicide challenge. Police, however, has yet to confirm this.
According to Gulf News, both were class 10 students of the United International Private School in Muhaisnah, but were not related to each other.Ā
The police told the publication that they were alerted about a suicideĀ incident in Al Ghusais on Tuesday. The victim, a girl,Ā was depressed and suicidal and had attempted something similar in the past.
The next day, another suicide case was reported.
“At 11pm, on Wednesday, we received another call about boy who jumped to his death in Al Ghusais area too. The boy was a very clever student and was an only child. The father couldnāt believe that the body on the pavement belonged to his son.”
“He is a 15-year-old student and plunged to death while his father was asleep. The apartment door was locked from the inside and there was nobody with him. Initial investigation shows there is no criminal suspicion”, the officials said.
Police are now investigating a possibility of the horrific game as the reason behind the death of these students.Ā
They are also urging parents to keep an eye on their children, especially teenagers, and monitor their activities over the internet.Ā
The investigation is ongoing.Ā
