The landmark occasion – which is a national holiday in India – honours the date on which the nation became independent from the British rule on August 15, 1947.
Dubai Mall has taken all COVID-19 precautionary measures, as well as put in place preventive social distancing guidelines for those wishing to delight in India’s 74th Independence Day spectacle tonight at 8:45 pm, Saturday, August 15.

The flag was hoisted at 7.30 am by Indian Consul General of India to Dubai, Dr Aman Puri and was followed by the Indian National anthem.
Due to preventive COVID-19 guidelines, only members of staff were permitted to attend the flag hoisting ceremony physically, while the general public tuned in to the CGI’s social media pages to watch the ceremony take place virtually.
Consul General Dr Aman Puri addressed the gathering and said,
“I would especially like to wish members of the Indian community, our Emirati friends, friends from India living in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.”
“India and the UAE are strong partners which has also been seen in these times of unprecedented crisis. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to the UAE leadership and all the UAE authorities to support Government of India’s efforts in the repatriation of stranded nationals.”
